About the Artist

Food Dock has commissioned Stroud-based light artist Jack Wimperis to create a brand-new bespoke light sculpture for Gloucester after seeing his work Scintillating Birch Forest. This incredible immersive sculpture allowed you to walk through a meditative 'forest' of light, and was produced as part of LandMark, a Sky Arts programme featuring sculpters from across the UK. Scintillating Birch Forest was showcased by Bright Nights in 2021 at Gloucester Guildhall. Find out more about Jack's work here.

The Food by the Fire series

Come celebrate the final dark days of the year with food and fire, before joyous Spring rushes in to bring the light. Gather around the fire pit and enjoy delicious food with family and friends in this series of Food by the Fire events, running across the end of March 2024.

The fire pits at the heart of these intimate pop-up events have been designed by the talented children of Robinswood Primary School, as part of the Bright Nights Illumination programme. Illumination works to co-create amazing light-based experiences with members of the community across Gloucester. Artist Felix Rowberry worked with the students to draw images of the possible fire pits, exploring the natural and built world of Gloucester. So have a look out for local landmarks in their design. The school said 'the children enjoyed completing a different art experience and were delighted to create their metal designs for the fire pit. They were excited to hear that their designs would be made up for all to see'.

The Illumination programme is proudly sponsored by Gloucester BID.
